CARDIO MAKES YOU FAT AND OLD
Welcome everyone! This is the first of many blogs, I will present issues regarding health health and more health, because without our health what do we have? In doing so, I will try to back it up with as many references and scientific data as possible. I am not someone who thinks that I know or knows everything about health, Im just a hella big fan of “The Dog Whisperer” and my homie Cesar Millan on Nat Geo, so that explains the site name. I REALLY encourage readers to give me your feedback, as I am a student in school as well as in life and im always willing to learn. Im brand spankin’ new to this tumblr so bare with me, as im learning how to work the site on the fly.
Now on to the good stuff, my first topic is what I title “CARDIO MAKES YOU FAT AND OLD”. Now when I reference cardio in my title im referring to “low intensity cardio” specifically which would include:
- Jogging
- Long duration at a steady pace
Let me know if this sounds familiar, you go to the gym after work/school and its hella crowded and all the treadmills, stationary bikes, step machines, and ellipticals are being used so you wait in line courteously listening to your ipod while you wait. 5mins… 10mins… 20mins… 35mins… go by and the girl who was on the elliptical for 45mins while watching Jersey Shore finally gets off without really breaking a sweat… Familiar???????
I would say at least 75% of population is confused about working out. We are caught up in this notion that we need to keep doing cardio to stay lean or cut or thin and avoid that muffin top. Now in some cases low intensity would be more beneficial, especially if someone is rehabbing or used as a bridge from sedentary to being active. But, an alternative and more effective way to BOOST YOUR METABOLISM is by using “high intensity cardio”, also called “burst” training (i.e. sprinting, high intensity short duration). I will touch on seven important points.
- Marathon training makes you store fat!!
- Burst training is more functional to everyday living
- Burst burns HELLA more fat
- Burst training outdoes low intensity cardio in reference to training the heart and lungs
- Burst releases HGH and testosterone, which leads to burning hella more fat
- Marathon training stresses you out even more!!!
- Burst training saves you hella time!!

Marathon training makes you store fat
I see a lot of people who are looking to lose weight, so they get into marathon running and half marathons. Which is great! But… what happens when they get injured, or sick, or they might be having finals or deadlines from work and they have to take a couple weeks off??? BOOM, their weight sky rockets back up and when they get back to working out their usual 45mins on the treadmill turns to an hour, then the hour turns to an hour and 20mins… Then people complain because they don’t have time for anything else, then it goes downhill from there…
Marathon training uses:
- Fat as an energy source (which our slow fuel), instead of glucose (fast fuel).
- So say you or I started long distance cardio, our bodies would say… “Hmmm, this doode E.J. has been doing hella low intense cardio (which uses fat for energy), so body, we need to step it up so we don’t run out of fat because I don’t know when he’ll stop…”
- Marathon training forces your body to use the food that you eat, and turns it directly to FAT because your body is expecting you to use the fat in a later workout. But we don’t want fat right???
- In order to stay thin with marathon running you have to do hella running. Im taking about 2-3hrs 5x a week, that’s why you don’t see Lance Armstrong pudgy.
Burst training is more functional
When you do marathon training you are training your body to move in a slow and steady pace for a long period of time. But what do we need that skill for?? We got cars and buses for that now. We want to make our bodies a fast, quick, explosive machine right?? This is what burst training trains. Just in case we need to run in line on Black Friday or dodge a foul ball or something… haha
Burst burns hella more fat
You may burn more calories during a workout of marathon training than doing burst training, but once you finish your marathon you’re done burning calories, while after burst you burn up to 8x MORE CALORIES WHILE YOU RECOVER. Burst training:
- Uses glucose our quick energy source as compared to fat our lethargic energy source (so our bodies store more energy instead of fat).
- Burst is anaerobic, meaning without oxygen. So your body DOEST NOT use the oxygen we breathe in, only the oxygen found in our muscles which is limited (that’s why we can not maintain a sprint too long). So after our burst training, our bodies are working double time to replenish our muscles with oxygen, thus responsible for the fat burning after the workout.
- Think about it, notice the body’s of sprinters and boxers (who do anaerobic exercises) compared to cyclist.
Burst training outdoes low intensity cardio in reference to training the heart and lungs
Your heart and lungs are muscles just like your bicep or tricep. If you do high reps low weight on bicep curls, it will make your bicep smaller and not bigger and buffer right?? The heart and lungs are the same way, doing long distance cardio is like doing high reps low weight on the curls. Exercise your heart and lungs with burst in order to create a big strong muscle.
Burst releases HGH and testosterone, which leads to burning hella more fat
HGH and testosterone create more muscle in the body (fyi ladies you will not get buff from these because you don’t have the amount prewired as us men do). Doing burst training releases these hormones and pushes us more anabolically, which is our fat burning state.
Marathon running stresses you out
Marathon running uses an oxidation process to convert oxygen to energy in our bodies. The constant oxidative process will cause wrinkles to our face and ware and tear on our organs. That’s why health people stress us to eat a lot of “anti-oxidants” to protect us from free radicals in our bodies, and overdoing it with low distanst cardio will cause free radicals. Plus marathon running releases cortisol, our stress hormone instead of HGH or testosterone, and if we have been stressing from work or school or relationships we don’t want anymore cortisol…
Burst training saves you hella time!!
Ditch the hour long sessions on the elliptical, and hit the burst hard!! It should only take you 20 mins max to do bursting, that cuts your time by at least half!!! An example on the elliptical, 2min warm up with 5 rounds of 30sec sprint followed by 1:30min rest, then followed with 2min cool down. That’s only 14mins of total time!
In conclusion
Thank you if you are still reading by now, I hope I interested you in some way about your health. This is only the first of many so don’t worry! If you are interested, I hope you do more research about this topic and spread the word. Please give me your feedback!
